With disembodied rams' heads mounted on the walls and display cases of Native American artifacts, Bigfoot West sometimes seems like a museum, but it's actually a Westside bar. Whereas the Bigfoot Lodge, its sister location in Atwater, has more of a kitschy vibe, with Sasquatch signage and a lifesize Smokey the Bear statue, Bigfoot West is a relatively serious Western-themed variation. Vintage tribal paintings, feather-adorned medicine bags, racks of antlers and a large, intricately carved totem pole make the bar resemble an ersatz hunting lodge in the Pacific Northwest, while wooden walls evoke the stacked sides of a log cabin. A large, square-shaped wood bar dominates the center of the room, while intimate, dimly lit booths line the walls. The full bar has an extensive selection of whiskey, and house specialty drinks include variations like the Toasted Marshmallow (with vodka and butterscotch liqueur) and the Girl Scout Cookie martini. Happy hour is the best time for cheap drinks. For smokers needing a break, there's an outdoor patio in the back. Although the bar doesn't serve food, menus from local restaurants are provided for delivery. Street parking, however, can be difficult in this partly residential West L.A. neighborhood, especially on weekends. Ages 21 & over.

With the relatively recent return of cocktail bars that look like your grandfather’s game room, it seems taxidermy has become a hot commodity for any up-and-coming barkeep (don’t tell PETA). The Seven Grand has a hunting scene in its stairway, and who can forget Little Pedro’s (RIP) stuffed polar bear? But when it comes to dead stuff in bars, Bigfoot Lodge West takes the formaldehyde-preserved cake. It has elk, antelopes, a coyote and something that looks like a marmot.... More »
