Find a mix of barbecue favorites and Southwestern-style cuisine? That’s exactly what you’ll find at Big Earl’s BBQ – along with the best pork ribs, killer happy hour deals, and James Porter (who also heads up Petite Maison), a chef who means business in the kitchen. As for those delectable ribs, tender with a pleasant gnawability and great flavor, order a rack to go with a piece of cornbread on the side, no extra sauce. Or, if you’re there from 2 to 6 p.m. on a weekday, snag some chicken tenders with a cheddar-chive waffle for only $5, served with both a spicy and a sweet sauce. The Old Town Scottsdale restaurant is also notable for being featured on Travel Channel’s Man V. Food Nation. Host Adam Richman’s favorite dishes were the mac and cheese as well as the Southwestern take on corn bread [made with jalapenos, bacon, and chipotle honey butter].

Debate about Big Earl's all you want -- but pork ribs are one thing this Scottsdale-ified faux smokehouse does right. Tender with a pleasant gnawability and great flavor, these racks of pretty pink pork are the first thing chef and owner James Porter should haul to safety if the joint ever catches fire. We recommend you order a rack to go with an extra piece of cornbread on the side. Whatever you do, don't add any extra sauce. Enjoy. More »
