Best Time Wine is a fitting name for this shop - it's likely to go down in history as the best time to be had shopping for wine. Amid boxes of Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc, refrigerators stocked with bubbly champagne, and rows of premium liquors, shoppers can enjoy a rotating selection of sandwiches and tapas. Slabs of marble atop wine barrels provide the makeshift tables and are surrounded by chairs with mismatched cushions. For some odd reason, one of the "tables" has an outdoor umbrella popping out of the center. Toward the wall, also tucked in amid the merchandise, sits a tiny stage area that is home to weekend performers, usually Cuban music groups. For a $1 corkage fee, diners can select any of the wines in the store to enjoy with their meal. Tapas offered include Spanish omelettes ($4.99), slices of Manchego cheese ($4.99), boquerones (tiny sandwiches) in vinegar ($6.99), chorizo riojano in wine ($4.99), and small servings of paella Valenciana ($5.99). Sandwiches ($3.99) are a run-of-the-mill assortment of usual offerings such as turkey, salami, and ham with cheese.
