Oy vey! What's with these delis serving ham-and-cheese sandwiches? As they sell out to the treif, it's nice to know Ben's has the backs of its kosher-eating clientele. When you crave a steamy bowl of matzo ball soup, hot pastrami on rye, kasha varnishkas (AKA bowties), stuffed derma (don't ask what that is if you don't already know -- just swallow), knishes, gefilte fish, or a tongue omelet (totally tastes better than it sounds) and a can of Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray, there's only one place to be. If your tummy yearns for something more Eastern European, go for items like the chicken fricassee, the broiled Romanian tenderloin, and the Hungarian goulash served on slippery egg noodles. The restaurant's interiors are reminiscent of a New York deli, minus the sound of honking taxis in the background and servers that sound like Woody Allen. Bring home a hunk of corned beef, pickled on the premises. Oh, and expect a wait on Sunday mornings.
