Global restarateur Alain Ducasse opened Benoit as the more casual counterpart to his other New York restaurant, Adour. Casual, of course, is a relative term. The first thing you notice when walking into the dining room is the painted ceiling, a cerulean skyscape complete with wispy clouds, bordered by brass chandeliers. Red banquettes surround tables topped with white tablecloths, while large antique mirrors, white tile floors and tall, colorful flower displays add to the traditional brasserie feel. The menu doesn't veer very far from tried and true French classics like cassoulet, roast organic chicken for two and diver sea scallops. Wash everything down with a bottle of French wine or a cocktail like the rosé champagne punch or mango fizz. The lunch menu includes more casual fare like hamburgers and steak frites. Between 10:30pm and 12am, the restaurant serves a late-night menu full of things like charcuterie plates and baguette sandwiches.—Keith Wagstaff
