Kurt Beecher Dammeier, founder of Beecher's Handmade Cheese, launched this deli-restaurant to bring Mercer Island's restaurant scene up to date with Seattle's. Bennett's, which looks like a handsomely decorated airport restaurant, makes a big deal about sourcing ingredients from great purveyors like Macrina Bakery and serving ethics-heavy food. In the full-service part of the restaurant, the chefs keep the flavors simple and the menu descriptions ornate, at times producing a Chez Panisse-meets-Applebee's effect; sadly, quality skews toward the latter. The cheese course, which features many great local cheeses, including Dammeier's own, may be the best thing about the restaurant.
