On warm summer nights, the doors to Bella Bistro -- housed in an old garden -- are thrown wide open, and the charm of the kitschy Italian restaurant spills out into the patio, which is lit by garlands of light bulbs. Anyone looking for a less intimate evening should grab a bar seat that faces the kitchen, where regulars exchange stories and watch the cooks preparing fare rooted in Southern Italy -- the owner worked in restaurants in Sicily -- and influenced by American classics.
