Beer Island is on the Heights corner of White Oak and Studewood, just across the street from Fitzgerald's. Fitz's grand re-opening has given its neighbor a new influx of traffic, with scenesters ducking in before shows to grab a beer or glass of wine. (No liquor here.) The nautically themed Beer Island has a real beachside vibe, albeit with concrete taking the place of sand and none of the pesky dead-seagull odor you may experience down Galveston way. The weather is a big factor at this mostly outdoor former filling station, which means on warm days you could be sweating more than your quickly warming beer. Be sure to try one of the signature hot dogs marinated in Lone Star.
