Description

Vegans, vegetarians, and even carnivores will enjoy the Beehive's natural food selections. Nestled within a quaint shopping center, the Beehive draws crowds with its organic, tasty, healthful foods. The size of the juice bar -- offering only a handful of seats -- is no indicator of the friendly service or the variety of offerings. Freshly homemade meals include handmade sprout grain burgers -- full of bean sprouts, beets, carrots, tomatoes, and spinach -- wrapped in whole-wheat pita or sprout breads (don't forget to ask for fresh hummus inside), and they're packed with flavors of India and the Mediterranean. Lunch specials include brown rice, chickpeas or lentils, and boiled vegetables, as well as homemade split pea soup, lentil soup, barley stew, broccoli quiche, baked herbal tofu, fresh salad, and more. Don't pass up the brownies, chocolate cake, or soothing carrot cake -- all are nondairy and delicious. Beehive also makes frozen custards from bananas (walnuts optional). For an extra pick-me-up, or a quick supplement on the go, try the fresh veggie juices and signature protein shakes. Lunchtime gets busy, mostly with locals and regulars, but Beehive is definitely worth the wait.

In 1993, he rented the lunch counter, where he's... More »
