This pleasant, reasonably priced Argentine steak house is quite the change - as in you get some from a $20 bill - from overpriced American grills. Start with empanadas for $1.95 and progress to a sirloin topped with two fried eggs and partnered with French fries and you still won't hit the $15 mark. Skirt steak, served with a vibrant chimichurri sauce, is perhaps the best bargain, given that the size is such that you have another meal for the next day. Dessert and appetizers are mostly mundane, but you can score a solid block of grilled Provolone to share as a starter.
Argentina has given the world soccer star Diego Maradona and power broker Eva Peron, but neither were as satisfying as Beefeater. First, it's good for your taste buds: the savory flavors of South America fill your mouth. Then it's good for your hunger: entrees like the egantic (that is, bigger than ginormous) churrasco will fill you up with plenty left for a meal the next day. Perhaps even better is the price. You can start with empanadas or grilled provolone; move on to a steak covered with rich, bright-green chimichurri sauce; and finish with panqueque con dulce de leche, a crepe made with caramel and powdered sugar and flambéed with rum, and you still won't break the 20-dollar mark. Lunch specials get you a steak, salad, and drink for under $10. Around dinnertime the restaurant gets crowded, but complimentary drinks and the people-watching on Hollywood Boulevard help pass the time.
This Argentinian steakhouse is always packed with a great crowd. The place is quaint, the prices are very reasonable and the service is excellent. Try the Sangria and do not hesitate to pour that chimichurri on everything!

You're not cheap; you're just smart. And far-seeing. You know how to stretch a nickel till it howls for mercy. Let the grasshopper detonate his wad on some so-called "prime" or "kobe," along with the $9 sides of creamed spinach and the $15 martinis and crŹme bržlées. Come winter, that overgrown cricket'll have his frozen jaws fused together anyway -- you can bet he's not going to be chowing down on steak -- he'll be lucky to be sucking ice water through a straw! While you, ... More »
If your two key words when it comes to steak houses are cheap and good, then Beef Eater is for you. This Argentine meatery distinguishes itself in a variety of traditional ways, from steak empanadas to steak Milanesa to sirloin, all of which console the carnivore's palate with terrific beef flavors and textures. But if you're a skirt-steak cheapskate, then you're just as pleased with the price: No dish over ten dollars. Even the specials, "tango's sirloin" (a strip draped with a pair of... More »
Of all the species of restaurants in the world, the steak house is no doubt the most universal. Nearly every dominant culture that morphed from hunting to herding -- Italian, Japanese, Brazilian -- has a themed place for steak. And each gives a... More »
