Taking its name from Memphis' famed Beale Street, this small, boxy club has a little bit of every Southern river city in its hardwood and brick. Red track lighting runs along the base of the bar, Mardi Gras masks are pinned to the walls, and a wooden piano sits by the entrance, just begging to be played. Plenty of canned blues fill the room when the live music takes time off, and in the summer an outdoor patio and bar easily double the venue's capacity making this S. Broadway haunt a go-to stop after any Cardinals home game.

A home base for many of the city's best blues players, Beale on Broadway is the sort of place where you don't have to check the schedule before you go. The venue's de facto slogan is "Live Blues Seven Nights a Week," and that's usually what you get, whether it's the twice-weekly residency of local legend Kim Massie or visiting talent from such places as Chicago, Austin and (naturally) Memphis. With warm lighting, hardwood floors and a spacious back patio, it's easy to feel like you're... More »
If you've been on enough first dates, you know how hard it can be to really get to know the person on the other side of the table. Sure, small talk'll yield the requisite info -- job, hobbies, favorite recent movie -- but you need to see how your date behaves in the wild. So after dinner make a beeline for Beale on Broadway, located just south of Busch Stadium. St. Louis' best little juke joint, Beale serves as home base for many of the city's best jazz and blues players. In that... More »
