BCD Tofu House’s Irvine location is bigger than the OG OC one in Garden Grove, but the Korean staples at the new one are as delicious as at the old place. There are other things to munch on at BCD Tofu besides its namesake-a limited barbecue selection, bibimbap (a spicy noodle salad) and succulent chunks of raw crab spiced to a level worthy of any Mexican. But stick to the soon tofu. They also sell a salad that consists of a tender mixture of Korean and red-tipped lettuce, spinach, dandelion greens and cherry tomatoes. The leafy greens are pre-tossed with a flavorful-yet-delicate apple juice-based vinaigrette that maintains a perfect balance between sweet and savory. Because the dressing is light, there's no need to create additional work for yourself by ordering it on the side. There's a reason BCD runs 13 outposts from Little Seoul to Korea to Koreatown to bloody Torrance-and it ain't the seasoned clam, as grand as that is.
One of the few 24-hour, sit-down restaurants in Irvine not named Denny's or Norms, BCD Tofu House is a haven for UC Irvine students on an all-night Korean-food bender. Its two 24-hour locations (Irvine's Diamond Jamboree and Garden Grove's Koreatown) are known for magma-hot, stone pots of spicy soon tofu, stews loaded with spicy chili powder and meat.
