With a market nestled on the gift-shop-heavy Pearl Street Mall, Bayleaf's owner looked at concepts around the country, including New York's Eataly, for inspiration. And then he expanded his Parisian market, which has always peddled housewares and gifts -- including linens, candles and handcrafted tables -- to make room for a wide selection of of artisanal foods. Many of the edible items come from local producers, who make baked goods, breads, jellies and jams. Imported spices and international packaged foods supplement these homegrown items, bringing a little taste of the exotic to Boulder.
