  • 2010 | Best Small Public Garden

While studying to become a Master Gardener, Janet Smith conceived of this lovely little public garden in 2005. It was completed two years later by the Dallas County Master Gardeners and garden designer Carmel Womack, and now blooms with all manner of flowers as a sustainable, year-round garden designed to attract butterflies. The plants are watered with a drip irrigation system and the garden is accessible by a ramp, with benches for a comfy sitdown. In the middle is a specially commissioned... More »

  • 2008 | Best Holiday Bazaar

Do your Christmas shopping on the banks of White Rock Lake at this annual market of paintings, sculpture, photography, pottery, ceramics, jewelry, candles, fresh soaps, handmade cards and other creations. This is real art, not the bluebonnet paintings and hot-glue collages of other holiday bazaars. Best part: The Art Mart benefits the Bath House Cultural Center's year-round art and theater programs. Our best finds at last year's Art Mart: gorgeous hand-built pottery urns with soft... More »

  • 2005 | Best Neighborhood Art House

White Rock Lake offers more than bike and running paths. For years, the Bath House Cultural Center on the eastern shore of the lake has been a little powerhouse of art, theater, history and music. Built in 1930, the art deco building is tiny but boasts a 120-seat theater, two galleries, a darkroom and other spaces for activities including yoga classes, jazz concerts and dance workshops. It also houses a small but fascinating museum about the creation and history of the lake. (Did you know... More »

Event Review: The Early Education of Conrad Eppler

    | Mon, February 13, 2012

WoW! What a wonderful way to spend an evening or an afternoon watching this play. We went Saturday evening and I cannot remember when we had such an enjoyable time. Isabella Russell-Ides tells a story of star friends meeting up in a way only Isabella can tell. I admit you have to pay attention to the dialogue and listen to the sheer poetry of her words in order to comprehend what is going on. I promise that if you do, you'll laugh and cry and feel good that you were there to experience the wonderful direction of Pam Meyers-Morgan and a in-tune cast of seasoned performers as well as some very talented "new up and comers" The short of it....... GO.
