Founded in 1996 near Wash Park, Basic Doc's quickly came to dominate the east-Denver pizza market from its second location on Holly Street. Years later, devotees still flock to this small storefront for takeout (when they're not ordering up delivery over the phone or on the computer). The thin, flaky crusts and fleshy tomato sauce are commendable, but the vast array of Basil Doc's toppings are the real cure for boring pizzas. (First-timers may want to trust authority and try one of the many specialty pies.) The extensive menu also includes calzones, strombolis, panino and individual slices tailor-made for lunch on the go. Although prices are a bit more than what you'd throw down at a national pizza chain, here you get what you pay for.
