Mountain-size salads and a wealth of sturdy, consistently fresh and vibrant foods keep Barnaby's in business. Smoked chicken tostadas with roasted corn salsa delights, and the chicken pesto salad sandwich with artichoke hearts is remarkable. The meat loaf with garlic mashers is comfort food at its most, um, comforting. And the many burger combos, accompanied with a hearty stack of perfectly crisp french fries (or subbed with steamed veggies), will satisfy even the most finicky of eaters. Get in early at the Montrose/River Oaks location to avoid long waits.
It's hard to find good help, or so the saying goes. Indeed, many of the chefs and restaurant owners I've spoken with over the years privately admit that finding good waitstaff in Houston can be a Sisy... More »
Brownies, like chocolate chip cookies, seem so simple - yet why is it that so many places screw them up? There are mediocre brownies aplenty in H-town (believe me, I've done my research) but truly ex... More »
My older brother moved to Holland a few years ago for a girl. Though they aren't together anymore, she did visit us in Houston when they were still going out. Wanting to test the stereotype that the ... More »
Ever since my "grass-is-always-greener" incident eating Sunday brunch at West Gray Cafe, I've been jonesing for what I originally set out to get on that fateful day: a burger from Barnaby's. Barnaby'... More »
There are three things I want out of Sunday brunch: 1) To get day-drunk, preferably off of mimosas. 2) To eat tasty food. 3) To temporarily forget by means of reasons 1 and 2 that I have to go to wor... More »
Barnaby's Cafe is a consistent, healthy and dependable local chain. Whether you are out on a date, need a quick bite before a show or are looking to take out the family without breaking the bank, you will find friendly service and tasty food here. The burrito is one of the best values around. For $10, it's huge, packed with chicken, rice and black beans that can easily feed two hungry adults. Tasty, healthy and cheap is a hard combination to come by these days, but Barnaby's burrito delivers. More »
Never atop any list of health foods, hot dogs seem to get a bad rap these days. But if you feel the urge to splurge and gobble down a dog, you won't find a better option than the all-natural foot-long at Barnaby's Cafe. Served on a toasted bun and sliced down the middle into two meaty halves, this hot dog is seared to perfection, with the grill marks to prove it. Purists can order it plain and revel in that all-beef flavor, or pile on the cheese and chili. If you still have room afterwards,... More »
Celebrating its tenth year this December, Barnaby's is a landmark in the Montrose. Named in memory of principal owner Jeffrey Gale's beloved sheepdog, the restaurant is adorned with cute images of the pooch. And the menu, consisting primarily of good ol' fashioned comfort food, reflects the people of the neighborhood itself: simple with an eccentric flair. Normally we wouldn't think of ordering meat loaf at a restaurant, but here the dish is so good (especially with the mashed potatoes) that... More »
This is a regular spot for us.. The food is great, service is always excellent, and the staff is pleasant... Try the Blue cheese fondue with the waffle fries, or the egg salad sandwich.. Breakfast is also great!!! And it is not just for gay folk, straighties like it too...
I love the sandwiches at Barnaby's! My favorites are the chicken pesto & artichoke hearts, the egg salad, and the turkey breast with cranberry mayonnaise. The salads are good, too. The burgers are ok, and I haven't tried any of their plates. I usually just go for the sandwiches. I love their seasoned fries, especially with a bit of honey mustard sauce on the side. Yum! Their carrot cake is good, too, but be prepared for an enormous slice!! Prices are very reasonable. And I love the rainbows and the Barnaby dog! :)
my sister and me always order the same thing: the club house sandwich. i usually order it adding every cheese they have. my favorite salad is the Lebanese Chicken Fattoush. mmm, hungry now.
