Warning: This is long, but worth the read!! The lack of concern for customer service is downright disgusting. My husband and I live about 1 1/2 hours from Richardson, but because they were the only shop around with the supplies he needed to start making his own lures...we decided to make the drive. As soon as you walk in the door, you enter a store with seemingly NO employees. We were in there a while before anyone finally came out to greet us. They acted like we were putting them out for being there. It was ridiculous. But, we weren't going to drive all that way for nothing. We got our stuff and left as the employee basically ran past us to get to his vehicle. They were closing, and he apparently had somewhere extremely important to be. My husband placed a pretty substantial order with them yesterday morning. He was told it'd be ready between 5 and 6 (they close at 6:00). He said we'd be there at 5:30. We leave early to account for traffic because it's absolutely brutal in that area. Even with that precaution, there's of course an accident of some sort. At 5:48, I called to let them know we were stuck in traffic but only 2 miles away. They absolutely REFUSED to work with us. The girl who answered said I had 7 minutes to get there because they were closing and leaving at 5:55. I reminded her that their website and door shows 6:00, but she still insisted they would leave at 5:55. A man got on the phone and said they'd stay until 6, but not a minute after. I told him that if we couldn't get our order, we'd just have to cancel. He said cancelling would be fine. What?! You'd rather lose money than stay 2 min? Insane. We pulled into the parking lot at 5:59. The lights were out; vehicles were gone. It was a ghost town. As you can imagine, my husband and I were SHOCKED and furious, to say the least. So, we call today and ask to speak to a manager. The manager gets on the phone, immediately with an attitude, and basically has nothing to say. When my husband mentioned cancelling but said he'd like to continue doing business with them (hoping the mgr would say or do SOMETHING to rectify the situation), the guy said he'd cancel the order and hung up. This is an absolute joke of a business. We will NEVER use them again and strongly discourage everyone we know from stepping foot in that store.
Dallas used to be dotted with little bait and tackle stores where you could acquire a little bit of equipment and a whole bunch of information just by stopping in. Now, of course, the huge category-killers like Bass Pro Shops and Academy have driven most of the mom-and-pops out of business. One of the interesting exceptions to that rule is Barlow's, just south of Arapaho Road on the southbound service drive of Central Expressway in Richardson. Barlow's maintains a serious Web presence,... More »
