Sometimes a burger and fries is enough to sustain you through a night of serious drinking, and sometimes it's got to be boozy bacon prunes. It is at those latter times that you hope you have the pull to get past the doorman at Bar Marmont, whose list of regular customers still resembles US Weekly's table of contents, because Bar Marmont is everything you could want in a gastropub: ingenious cocktails, intimate nooks and the killer cooking of Carolynn Spence, who was once chef de cuisine at NYC's notorious Spotted Pig. Her menu, while far less offal-intensive than Spotted Pig's, is very close to it in spirit: Italian-influenced small plates include diver scallops in brown butter, a good small wine list and drinks. Lots of drinks. The kitchen stays open until 10:30 p.m. for dinner. And if you discover you need that burger after all, it's a good one.

Dear Mr. Gold:Recently I’ve developed a craving for sliders. I’ve tried them at Hamburger Hamlet, the Counter, the Arsenal and French 75. So far I’ve liked the Counter’s best. Help me with my research: Who do you think has the best sliders?—Seth, ... More >

Dear Mr. Gold:At the Spotted Pig, a restaurant in the West Village unfortunately better known for Jay-Z sightings than for the food, which is really good, you can get something called gnudi, which to my untutored eye look a lot like herbed ricotta... More >

I have been to Bar Marmont a few (5) times now and find it hands down my favorite place in Hollywood. The menu is great and fairly affordable, there is also a great and cheap wine selection under $40. It varies day to day I have been there on a Monday night with a friend for dinner and had a great time. There was cool DJ's and great crowd. Also i had a birthday dinner in a private room with 15 people. There was no extra charge for the room and they had a very reasonable price per head deal 3 courses for 45$ per head. The staff are so friendly and greet me as one of their own it is so refreshing. I have had a great time at this bar and hopefully will continue to frequent it often. Some good advice is the valet is half price $ 9 if you get there before 9pm (everyday). Also they have a great happy hour from 6-9pm i had half a dozen oysters and a glass of great wine all for $12. Pros: Great lighting, good food, cheap valet before 9pm, happy hor 6-9pm Cons: expensive valet after 9pm find a park on the street

It's art deco. The atmosphere is really neat - it's more of a chill type of atmosphere.

Next door to the Hotel is a great bar/restaurant. The chef, Carolyn, comes from New York's Spotted Pig. Every starter is frickin amazing (go for the lamb sausage, potatoes w/ sour cream and trout, and the fried baby artichokes). Entree's equally insane like the pork shank and the halibut. Trendy scene and amazing martini's make this one of my steady hangs.
