Love for this Thai eatery is multi-generational. For more than 20 years, customers have been passing on their love for the food offered here. Dishes like the green curry, tom kha soup and corn patties fetch high praise. The pad Thai is also popular. Are you surprised? However, don't be afraid to try some of the not-so-familiar authentic Thai fare. The staff will steer you in the right direction. The willingness to customize is probably one of the reasons Bangkok Inn has been a success. If you want your order spiced beyond measure on the scoville scale, the cooks are happy to oblige. The cheap prices and BYOB policy also contribute.
If you plan ahead, BYOB restaurants can be a lot of fun. Not only can they save you a lot of green, but they also put an endless variety of booze at your disposal and the potential pairings are limitl... More »
It's not much to look at. The small house turned Thai restaurant wears more than 30 years of service on its siding. The dining room is plainly decorated and dim, and the carpet and printed menus have done their share of duty as well. That's all part of the charm, though. While most people view Bangkok Inn as a place to call in an order for pick up, the restaurant is also a BYOB treasure that's mostly undiscovered. People know about the spring rolls, corn patties and excellent curry, but they... More »
Dumplings are touch-and-go. It's easy for a dumpling to be a little too dumpling or not quite dumpling enough. The shell has to be cooked but not overcooked, and of course the filling needs to be warm when the dumplings arrive at the table but not cooked solid and certainly not cold. If you've never been to Bangkok Inn before, don't start complaining about the modest decor. All of that energy and concentration is going into getting the Thai dumplings just exactly right, to say nothing of the p... More »
Ambience is in short supply at the Bangkok Inn. The garish red and green décor may be an attempt to distract patrons' attention from the uneven floor and matching ceiling, and often the best tables are taken by members of the owner's family reading the paper or doing homework. But don't worry, once your masaman curry arrives, that smell is all the ambience you need. We can't actually tell you what the rest of the menu is like (we hear it's pretty good, though), because we can't bring... More »
The last time we went out for pizza, we rang up a $30 tab splurging on four toppings. The price of cheap eats is going up, except, that is, at Bangkok Inn. Nearly everything on the menu is $6.95, and their curries--from mild yellow to spicy hot red panang--are some of the best we've had. How do they do it? Well, let's just say they didn't break the bank on decor, which hasn't changed in the decade we've been going to this East Dallas mainstay. The lighting is bright, direct, and sort of... More »
This is a great Thai place at the corner of Skillman and Oram.
