The battery of artillery cannons that protected San Francisco Bay from Civil War days until the end of World War II wasn't guided by lasers or computers but by the Pythagorean theorem, which was used to chart the distance of a floating target -- with chalk upon slate. This is by far the best beach in SF. The view is absolutely gorgeous! I try to go whenever the weather is good. You can go sans bikini if you want, which is shhhweet, except for the naked creeper dudes!
