This stately restaurant is not the city's best Afghan by a long shot, but the comprehensive menu does a great job of showcasing the Persian, Mughal, and Chinese roots of the cuisine. Many of the best dishes are vegetarian: Pick the wonderful scallion-stuffed dumplings called ashak, which come smeared with a mint-flavored yogurt, or the homemade noodles dotted with kidney beans known as ashi lobya. The kebabs are mainly disappointing, though we loved the lamb chops, which came four-to-a-plate bedded on cumin-flavored rice, and the lamb curry, confusingly classified as a side dish. Another "don't miss": the pumpkin turnovers. Open till 11:30 pm.
