We can't quite vouch for Backstreet being St. Louis' best venue for jazz and blues, but it's certainly the best place west of Jefferson. Its Westport Plaza location makes Backstreet an unlikely spot for regulars, and most of the crowds tend to pour in post-Funny Bone. Local acts such as the Soulard Blues Band, Joe Marlotti and Buffalo Bob fill this small, dark space with great music even when it's not full of people.
Disappointed with New Years Eve. RFT advertised FREE night with Billy Peak but there was a $25 cover at the door. Not wanting to drive around on New Years Eve, we paid. Then we were told we couldn't sit at an empty table because they were "reserved". This was bogus. The tables remained empty all night long. Drinks were were watered down and NOT included in the $25 cover. Lady at the door was "unfriendly" - that's putting it nicely. Morning breakfast buffet was shared between this venue and the comedy club and not monitored by any staff. As a result, drunk people were reaching thier HANDS into the trays and grabbing handfuls of food. Disgusting! The bar itself is a nice little room and dance floor but given how the management/owner participated in bait and switch and treated us on New Years Eve, we will NEVER go there again. Don't patronize this establishment!
Come in on Wednesdays to see Melissa, and Thursdays to see Nikki! Happy Hour is from 8-9, $2.50 domestic beer and wells. Live music every night! Great acts like Billy Peek and Soulard Blues. Open from 8pm-1am Monday-Saturday, 8pm-11:30pm Sundays. No cover charge all week, $5 cover on Fridays and Saturdays. Free admission with Funnybone ticket or stamp from that evening!
