CLOSED. There are beer bars, there are themey goofy cocktail palaces, and then there are the bars for the people who understand the differing architectural signifiers of the two. If you understood that sentence and live in south Minneapolis, Azia is likely your stylish, but low-key lounge, bar, and restaurant. It's got soaring silver ceilings and all sorts of tropical drinks such as the splendidly named Hello Punch. And don't so many, many people deserve a Hello Punch? Discuss this point with friends over the best cream-cheese wontons (with cranberry!) in town. Fancier entrees often have less success, but since the stylish, flatteringly lit, sexy spot serves till 2:00 a.m. every night, offers all kinds of interesting happy hours, decent-priced lunch all day, and sizes their appetizers to share, it's well loved.
Yes, you read that right. Remember the old Azia location at 2550 Nicollet? Well it's about to be the site of a new restaurant that appears to be a revamp of the original, officially to be called Azia ... More »
"In these trying economic times" is a phrase used so frequently lately that it's becoming trite, but however you want to word it, many of us are looking for ways to cut back on spending right now. Eating out is often the first casualty of... More »
TRULY FINE DINING Minneapolis has a lot of restaurants these days that think they're fine dining, but aren't. They don't have the staff, they don't have the gear for the table, they don't have the training, and, frankly, most of the time they... More »
Remember the Mad, Mad Mexican, East Lake Street purveyor of remarkably thin enchiladas and other questionable Southwestern fare? Of course you do, because for years and years it was virtually the only middle-of-the-night alternative to Perkins,... More »
Azia 2550 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis 612.813.1200 All summer, I have had a running battle with the little boys on my block, because they want to 1) drop rocks on bees; 2) jump off the side of the porch into thorny thistle-patches; 3) jump... More »
LOVE this place! My favorite dish is the squash dumplings. It's an appetizer, but I sometimes order it as my main course. I prefer to go for lunch because it's never crowded. But it should be. Awesome!
More pricey than other nearby sushi but it is well worth the cost. Order a bottle of Ford Coppola and chefs choice sushi platter.
Food is overpriced and not great. Go here for drinks and atmosphere. Go next-door to any of the real Asian joints for real food.
If you're burning the midnight oil, but you'd really prefer your late-night fires were used to sautée noodles or heat up a plate of pad Thai, head to Azia, where you can gorge yourself on Asian fusion until 1:45 a.m. Night owls will be treated to high ceilings, dark-stained wood, moody lighting, and bathroom sinks graced with real towels and slender branches of red buds. For a three-course midnight snack, start with the cranberry puffs (crispy wontons filled with tangy cranberries and... More »
Years ago it used to be that post-midnight dining around here involved either trying to squeeze in at overcrowded, overdressed Figlio or undertaking the adventure that is standing in line at White Castle. While those options are still available, smart diners looking for a meal after the show now head to 26th and Nicollet. In between the shiny silver pressed-tin ceiling and marble floors that make the place seem solid and permanent (despite all of the location's short-lived previous... More »
