Like a fine Bordeaux, Atlas grows richer and more noble with each year. The menu is timeless, with attention paid to the quality of ingredients and meticulous preparation rather than pizzazz and the latest trends. Dishes change seasonally, but you'll certainly find excellent lamb and pork dishes as well as a fish of the day and vegetarian selections. The steak frites, a staple, is the best in town.

No, not a first date, but that rare event when you and your significant other can find time in your hectic lives to relax, share a bottle of wine, have an actual conversation and enjoy a terrific meal. Atlas is the ideal environment. "Are you having dinner at the bar tonight?" Owner Jean Donnelly's question never fails to surprise. Of course you're having dinner at the bar. As usual, the restaurant's packed, and you're too self-conscious to request a table for one. But Donnelly's welcoming smile makes you feel like the pater familias of a four-top from Ladue, and her enthusiasm for your dining plans is sincere -- and infectious. You're not "having dinner alone at the bar." You're having dinner! Alone! At the bar!... More »
Like a smash Broadway show whose popularity necessitates an extended run, the superlative desserts at Atlas Restaurant deserve their own spotlight. And because someone out there loves us (we suspect it's husband-and-wife co-owners Michael Roberts and Jean Donnelly), Atlas stays open late on Friday and Saturday nights, serving heavenly confections until the witching hour. If these desserts had their own White Way marquee, it might read: "Lemon pudding cake with warm blueberry sauce! Homemade... More »
For nineteen months Atlas Restaurant has occupied a lovely space on Pershing, meshing perfectly with the sleepy-chic vibe of DeBaliviere Place. Nineteen months of fabulous piccolo fritto, nineteen months of perfect profiteroles. Nineteen months since San Francisco's loss became St. Louis' gain, when Michael Roberts, a graduate of the prestigious culinary school at the City College of San Francisco, blessed our city with his simple, French bistro-inspired cooking. His is a labor of love and... More »
