In a Starbucks town, the Athenian still serves Farmer Brothers coffee. At the Athenian you can still chow down on a plate of sinigang seafood soup (salmon or halibut with clams, prawns, squid, and rice) or pickled herring. Featured are an extensive bar (famous for frosty beer mugs) and a long menu of diner food and daily specials. Come in low season and easily snag a window booth. In summer, you'll fight your way like a spawning sockeye through the river of tourists, but once inside, it'll make you wish that more of Seattle could stay the same.
