Description

Avgolemono means "egg and lemon" in Greek and, at Athenian Express Café, it also means "absolutely delicious." Lemony chicken broth with yellow rice and diced tomatoes and chunks of tender carrots make for a delicious soup and an order of spanakopita -- spinach and cheese triangles, all crispy and flaky on the outside, and spinachy-cheesy on the inside -- as a side dish make a delicious dinner from on high. Also tasty is the tzaziki, a yummy dip for spanakopita, and the Chicken Picado Pita, a pita filled with juicy chunks of chicken.

    Just tried the Athenian Express today at lunchtime, and got the falafel pita for take-out. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and saw all the goodies - lettuce and peppers and cucumbers and kalamata olives galore! It was a bit tough to eat as a pita sandwich, since it came as more of an open-faced pita, no tin foil wrapper and all that. They had already given me a knife and fork and tons of napkins, though, so problem solved. If you order any pita sandwich here, I suggest you add feta and get the fruit side - it was a HUGE portion of really good fresh fruit. I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because the falafel itself was a bit harder than I'm used to, but still quite good. I'll be back to try the gyro soon!

    wasn't super packed at lunch, which was great. the food was good, I couldn't eat it all, so I took it home and it was even better after I warmed it up for dinner.

    A great lunch spot downtown. They have a wide variety of options in addition to what you'd expect from a Mediterranean restaurant. I'm a huge fan of the falafel, but have also had delicious sandwiches here. I'm really intrigued to try the stuffed avocado or their breakfast items on a future visit.
