Home to a number of local and touring jazz acts -- as well as their own popular weekly Hammond B-3 organ night -- the Artists' Quarter stands as one of the most reliable hot spots in the Downtown St. Paul area. This artist-owned and operated club also features free weekly open poetry sessions and all sorts of musical offerings from classic bop to modern fusion.

  • 2013 | Best Jazz Club

Subterranean, dark, funky, and regularly presenting an impressive array of local and national jazz artists, the venerable Artists' Quarter has all the attributes of a great jazz club. Tucked into the basement of St. Paul's Hamm Building, the AQ boasts intimate confines, classic jazz photos and album covers decorating the walls, a decent bar, a real character manning the door in Davis Wilson, and a genuine dedication to an art form that requires first-class talent but too often is relegated... They'll clap instead of snapping their fingers per an early San... More »

The third album from the increasingly impressive modern jazz outfit Atlantis Quartet, Lines in the Sand, recorded live at the Artists' Quarter last spring, isn't the grand declaration of arrival that was 2009's Animal Progress. But it does for... More »
