Description

Easily spotted thanks to the giant silver armadillo leering at the passing traffic on Kirby Drive, Armadillo Palace is part of the Goode Company cluster of eat-and-drinkerys just south of Highway 59. Patrons can feast on the family's legendary barbecue and sip whiskey while taking in the various frontier décor lining the interior. Live music of the honky-tonk and Red Dirt variety sounds forth from the corner stage Wednesday through Saturday, and there's even a bit of room for dancing. (A bit.) Folks needing a little liquid courage before they take a spin need look no further than the large bar anchoring the center of the room.

Armadillo Palace serves up some great Texas bistro fries. Thin cut with skins on and sprinkled with just enough seasoned salt, these fries are perfectly paired with a side of Goode Company's famous BBQ sauce. The secret here is frying them twice, so they're crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. If you like a fantastic burger and fries and don't mind listening to country music and being ogled by taxidermy, then Armadillo Palace is well worth a visit. More »

The walls are covered with buffalo heads, cowboy memorabilia and giant photos of Jim Goode's chuck-wagon cooking team. The live music comes from Texas singer/songwriters, and the ice-cold draft comes in frozen cannonball schooners.
