Arapahoe Basin Trail Race

10:30 a.m. July 1

A two-division trail run starting at almost 11,000 feet above sea level. Followed by live music and a celebratory barbecue.
Alpenglow Dinner & Wildflower Hike

5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. July 20

A dinner comprised of Colorado-inspired dishes followed by a sunset hike through fields of alpine wildflowers.

The new Black Mountain Express at Arapahoe Basin represents the end of an era for the 65-year-old no-frills ski area, where the old A-frame lodge and parking-lot beach parties are still just as skiers have always loved them. Arapahoe Basin already appeals to the independent skier, the person who'd rather power down the slopes than vamp through Vail. And while there are plenty of challenging runs -- including the classic Pallavicini -- on A-Basin's official map, the area also boasts great out-of-bounds skiing. From April through closing (usually around July 4), A-Basin proves that life's a beach, even at 10,000 feet above sea level. Memorial Day features theme buffets, live music, dancing, volleyball games, cookouts, snow biking, beachwear and tailgate parties. And because many of the events happen in the parking lot, you don't even have to ski or ride to enjoy the festivities, although it helps. More »
