Open since 1989, this iconic Soho art cinema spawned a number of satellite movie theaters in Texas and elsewhere in New York City. But the original--with a cafe serving gourmet sandwiches, ice cream, and coffee--is a step above. Blocks from both the 1 train at Houston and the B, D, F, M, and 6 trains at Broadway-Lafayette, the Angelika has old-Hollywood glamor without the pretension, and offers a great way to spend an afternoon. And it's not a bad date spot, either.

At last! A documentary about that underexposed group: the 1 percenters in their lair. In Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's, the storied store is presented in cinematic terms as ex-screenwriter Matthew Miele watches decorator David Hoey madly... More »
There are times during the affecting tumult of What Maisie Knew when you may think, "At last, a first-rate American movie about what being a kid actually feels like!" And then there are times when, despite the scrupulousness of co-directors... More »
