Joe Campanale and Gabe Thompson, the team behind cozy West Village eatery Dell'anima, opened this spot with a focus on wine. Red, white and sparkling wines, many of them organic, biodynamic and natural, are available by the glass along with plenty of other alcohol options like three beers on tap and a selection of cocktails including the Anfora Highball (gin, Fernet-Branca, ginger ale and lime) and the Purple Pedro (chamomile-infused tequila, lavender and lime). The kitchen puts out some pretty serious food as well. Lamb ragu sliders, an endive salad with lemon-anchovy dressing and a panino filled with coppa, aged provolone and peppers are just a few of the Italian snacks you'll find to go with your drinks. Anfora also serves up impressive cheese and charcuterie plates, as well as olives and stuffed peppers. The vibe is both sleek and homey, slick leather banquettes and a shiny bar juxtaposed against exposed brick and potted plants.—Keith Wagstaff
