Forget about the greasy, goopy, nasty pizzas from Domino’s/Little Caesars/Pizza Hut. Go for gourmet, and your taste buds (and stomach) will thank you. Andiamo! is the best pizza in Miami, hands down. Where else can you try a delicious potato-topped pie? (Yes, potatoes.) The Genovese is graced by thinly sliced red bliss potatoes, sprinkled with pancetta, and caressed by Gorgonzola. Or how about the Putanesca: Kalamata olives, capers, anchovies, red chili flakes, tomato sauce, and mozzarella. But it’s not just a place for pies; there are also salads, panini, and cheesesteaks. Recently the owners hired Frankie Crupi, former proprietor of Frankie’s Big City Grill on the Upper Eastside -- and Crupi brought his signature Philly cheesesteaks to the pizza shop. Delivery of all of the above yummy items is available, but eating at the restaurant is an experience in itself: It’s located in a Sixties-era tire shop. The ambiance is George Jetson-in-Napoli. A bonus: There’s a car wash next door.

BEST PIZZA Andiamo 5600 Biscayne Boulevard Miami 305-762-5751 A couple on their first date, late-night at Andiamo: It's so nice sitting outside, watching cars roll down Biscayne. I think the fumes add a certain Manhattan authenticity to the taste. I love that they make the pies to order in that big brick oven. I mean they're the hottest, most crisply crusted pizzas in town, and they've got those neat little black blisters on the bottom. Absolutely, and there's like 25... More »
Cars zoom along Biscayne Boulevard, passing the glorious spaceship of a building designed around 1960 by Robert Law Weed. For many years since, Leo's, a car wash and detailing service, has occupied the site, once a General Tire showroom. Now at the behest of restaurant mogul Mark Soyka, Leo's remains but the opportunity to stop in for a tempting pie has been added. And what a pie it is. Straight from the mouth of the imposing brick oven, which would have made the witch from Hansel and Gretel... More »
