Description

Anderson Fair's inconspicuous location on Grant Street belies its history as one of the nation's oldest and longest-running singer-songwriter venues. It's a past that's hard to forget, as the walls are plastered with hundreds of posters, flyers and photographs of folks who have graced the main room's small stage, including legends Townes Van Zandt and Lyle Lovett. (Look closely and you'll even spot a pair of gold records from Lovett himself.) The cash-only bar serves an array of beer and wine while you take in an intimate performance from some highway-trotting troubadour, and you'll feel the history seeping into your skin.

Austin's Matt the Electrician (Matthew Sower to his family and friends) must be both proud and puzzled by the blurb on his CDBaby marketing page which says, "Recommended if you like Ben Folds, Paul Simon, Taj Mahal." Oddly enough, that description... More »

    | Thu, February 25, 2010

The first time we saw Adam Carroll, he was an unknown opening for one of the rowdiest, loudest bands on the scene at that time, Mark David Manders's group at Austin's La Zona Rosa. When Carroll walked onstage with nothing but a cigarette and an ac... More »
