Description

This Castro eatery is a study in sparkling silver, as cool in appearance as the beds of ice cupping spreads of oysters. Although fresh raw bivalves make an appearance on most tables at Anchor Oyster Bar, cooked seafood is excellent here as well. The menu includes a Boston-style clam chowder; simple, delectable bowls of steamed mussels and clams; and daily fish and seafood entrée specials like crab cakes. Start your meal with shrimp cocktail or an oyster shooter.

    Chowdah Head

I have to admit I've never been able to get a good grip on the dining scene in the Castro. For years, it was a scatter shot of unremarkable restaurants whose underlying motto seemed to be "Come for the scene, stay for the ... scene." But then,... More »
