Description

This soul food restaurant has become a fixture of the Harlem dining scene ever since it opened in the late 1990s. Everything on the menu is named after a local or international celebrity. There is the Reverend Al Sharpton (chicken and waffles), the honorable Keith Wright (fried or smothered pork chops, named after a New York State assemblyman who lives in the neighborhood) and the Ludacris (fried chicken wings). The sides, like collard greens, fried okra and mac and cheese, are almost as popular as the entrees. Of course, no Southern meal would be complete without a giant cup of sweet tea, available along with fruit juice and fresh-squeezed lemonade. The dining room is as comforting as the food, with cheerful yellow walls covered with colorful photographs and leafy green vines dangling from shelves above the counter. Weekends can be kind of busy, especially on Sunday when the church crowds come in.—Keith Wagstaff
