This is the sixth seafood restaurant coming out of Alexandria, Egypt to appear in the metropolitan area, slinging whole fish blackened over charcoal (called "barbecue" here -- you must remove the skin before eating), or by deep-frying, the latter with a kooky spice coating that includes salt, cumin, and cinnamon. Both are delicious and ridiculously cheap. The only accompaniments available are baba ganoush, dirty rice, and salad. To reach the dining room, you must pass through a (fascinating) Egyptian grocery, then skirt the iced display of fish, traipse through the bustling but decrepit kitchen, then through a pair of ornate wooden doors to reach the spare, brightly-lit room. Persevere! A light rail line lands near this obscure location in southwestern Jersey City.
