Ale House at Amato's, the brewpub that Breckenridge Brewery built at the very edge of Highland, is an expansive, ambitious project that bears little resemblance to the original Breckenridge brewpub in Summit County. This spot, which opened in the spring of 2011, derives its name from Amato's, the family-owned statuary business that had overlooked downtown since 1947 and moved a block away in order to free up the corner for the creation of Ale House. The redesign of the space and lots of fresh construction created a two-level, multi-roomed restaurant with two excellent decks -- one with a rooftop fire pit, and both with absolutely stunning views of downtown. The mantra at Amato's is "Good food, good drink and good cheer," and the joint is perpetually crowded as people pour in to eat off a predictable menu of burgers and bar snacks and, of course, drink off that long, Breckenridge-brew-heavy beer list.
