Actor’s Café: The Foreigner Recommended

  • Description

The foreigner in Larry Shue's The Foreigner isn't exactly foreign. Well, at least not in the alluring, exotic sense. Dude's from England, his name's Charlie, and he edits sci-fi for a living. But for the sake of preserving an old-lady innkeeper's feelings and because his friend Froggy fibs (never trust someone with an animal nickname, we think), Charlie pretends he doesn't know English and the farcical story goes on. Because other guests at the lodge think Charlie doesn't understand what they're saying, they speak freely around him, and he ends up with all sorts of scandalous tidbits -- most notably that local Klansmen want to condemn the lodge.

See how it all plays out at Desert Stages Theatre. Performances continue through Sunday, May 19.
