Went to Abe's over the weekend and was really disappointed. I had 2 eggs scrambled, breakfast potatoes and bagel while my son had a 3 egg omelette with challah toast.
My first issue was this: I finished my first cup of coffee as breakfast was being served. I didn't get a refill - even after asking - until I was done with my meal. Even if a breakfast place does nothing else well - refilling coffee should be automatic.
My second issue was the thin breakfast menu. Not a lot on there. They had the normal stuff, but nothing special and certainly nothing that stood out. If you want a broad range of breakfast options go to Chompies, if you want the basics then Abe's will do.
My third issue was the vegetable cream cheese. The veggies in veggie cream cheese should be cut small enough/thin enough that they add flavor without changing the texture. The big chuncks of carrots in my veggie cream cheese gave my cream cheese an unexpected and unwelcome crunch. Not good.
The rest of the food was fine. Nothing memorable; nothing special. The potatoes were a bit underdone and had that not yet fully cooked through crunchiness to them. My son's chopped-bacon omelet, on the other hand, was good.
If I were in the neighborhood, I'd go to New York Bagels 'N Bialys just a block north (just across Golddust Ave) over Abe's. For my money, though, I like JJ's Deli at Scottsdale and Pinnacle Peak which I think is the tastiest New York style deli in the Valley.
