Description

A Restaurant-a name impossible to Google and the future foundation of many Abbot-and-Costello-like routines-is housed in the building that formerly held the Arches, the Newport Beach institution that once boasted John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart as regulars. Seemingly stripped of all pretense (not to mention consonants), A is no longer just for the A-list. The dim dining room feels like a cozy pub, and the daily pasta specials exist as a response to our souring economic times-OC's version of "The Recession Special," if you will.

    Great steaks. Great atmosphere. It has leather couches, the dark wood paneling and all that you see in most steak restaurants. It really has a lot of good people watching – a lot of the beautiful people of Orange County hang out here. Mark McGrath is one of the owners, so a lot of the different people come through here because of some of the celebrity ownership involved.

    super dark loungy bar area. i forgot the name of it, but the salad with the hearts of palm, avocado, cucmber, etc was amazing. And so was the cilantro jalapeno margarita.

    "A restaurant" is a great spot...I'm 29 and my favorite places are those with a ton of character...and "A Restaurant" delivers just that. They have managed to preserve the integrity of this landmark restaurant; all the while creating a fun yet intimate environment. This is a great place for a first date or to catch up with a good friend. Stop in for a glass of wine or sit down for a meal...either way you'll be glad you stepped through the doors.
