This Bloomington buffet aims to be more than just a Chinese restaurant; it also ambitiously offers 16 kinds of sushi. Skip the sushi. It doesn't taste fresh, it doesn't taste like fish, and it doesn't in any way satisfy that primal longing for sushi that fans are occasionally struck by. That said, the menu has some hits, too. The Tokyo Chicken (a teriyaki chicken dish that works well with white rice) was a nicely executed contrast of sweet and salty. The fish is not fresh. It stinks of mild decay. The seafood has a mild bleach taste. This is NOT what seafood should taste like.
The beef is tough, the chicken tastes old, the fruit is all pale, and some of the plates are not clean.
I think they use MSG because each time I've left with a tightened jaw and a queasy feeling in my stomach.
Just go away 98 pounds, you suck...you suck terribly.
The newly opened 98 Pounds buffet in Bloomington has sparked a surprising amount of positive online buzz for what is—in essence—a straight-up Chinese buffet with a sushi bar twist. For $7.99 (lunch) or $11.49 (dinner), the casual diner can sample... More »
