Up you go, climbing a massive set of stairs to reach a large marble façade with the words 88 Palace written in gold letters. Why all of the pomp? That would be the dim sum, pushed around on little metal carts by diligent ladies in white uniforms. If you've ever been to dim sum before, you know the drill; see something you like, point, and have the lady mark your bill. All of the classics are here: har gow (shrimp dumplings) cha siu bao (steamed buns filled with roast pork) and silky white rice noodles filled with shrimp. All in all, you can expect around 30 different dishes to be paraded around you. Order with abandon; even eating to the point of exhaustion will probably only cost you around $10, including tax and tip. The servers don't speak excellent English here, so feel free to walk up to a cart if you see something you like.—Keith Wagstaff
