Description

5th Sun is translated from the Spanish "quinto sol," which comes from the Mayan calendar and represents change for man and humanity. And opening this "Colorado-Mexican" restaurant just off Federal Boulevard was certainly a change for Trudy Gonzales, who'd never been in the restaurant business before and just decided to start her own place because people kept telling her how much they loved her food. She emphasizes healthy fare -- no fried food, and whole-grain tortillas are available on request -- but still manages to serve up traditional dishes, including mole and spicy green chile, in the spacious, sparsely decorated dining room. Still, the 5th Sun's menu isn't all about healthy takes on Mexican classics; you can also order baked-potato wedges and veggies and dip.

I have been driving past this place for the past year and didn't even notice it was there. My friend asked me to meet her there and I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the owners were friendly and engaging. I ordered a bean burrito with green chile, chips and salsa to share and a fresh margarita. I have to say the beans were the best I've tasted, maybe because they weren't filled with grease, ha ha!! I loved the green chile it was spicy and flavorful. I think the Margarita toped it off, it was made with fresh lime juice, so it was super refreshing!! I think this place deserves 5 stars, they did everything right, I can't wait to go back and try the enchiladas, see ya soon!
