This modern American bistro in the Ritz-Carlton in Battery Park City serves a safe, crowd-pleasing menu meant to satisfy hotel guests. The restaurant's look is hotel lobby chic, with patterned carpet, cushy chairs, curved, polished wooden walls and floor-to-ceiling windows. Staying at the Ritz isn't cheap and neither is the food; even casual dishes like the Angus burger (served with tomatoes, onions and cornichons) and the grilled chicken salad almost hit the $20 mark. More formal dishes include jumbo sea scallops with wild mushroom risotto and a New York steak made with hormone- and antibiotic-free Brandt Ranch beef. Come in during lunch (weekdays 11am-2:30pm) for the two-course ($16) and three-course ($21) prixe fixe menus. If you¹re just looking for a drink and a light snack, you can always settle into the lounge, where cocktails and casual bites like cheese plates, truffle and parmesan fries, and Angus beef sliders are served.—Keith Wagstaff
