The 18th Street Café is a casual neighborhood joint offering good sandwiches, salads, and decent burgers. Located in a corner space, the dining area is open and bright with a large bay window. Head to the counter, place your order, and then sit down to watch either news or sports on the two large-screen TV sets in the room. The staff is friendly but limited, making the wait a bit long for a quick lunch option. But if you have a few extra minutes, the made-to-order sandwiches and salads are worth the wait. All sandwiches are served with either a pickle, potato salad, or coleslaw. Several are available in a wrap or salad option as well. Additional salad choices include a spicy mango and jerk chicken, Cobb, and the signature M&M salad, which is a combination of grilled chicken, spinach, dried cranberries, pine nuts, and feta. There are a few vegetarian options, such as a portobello-mozzarella sandwich and a veggie burger, as well as a daily homemade soup. The café also recently began offering breakfast and features an extensive pancake menu, with buttermilk, peanut butter and banana, and chocolate chip. Or try the egg sandwiches and wraps with bacon and cheese, grilled portobello, and sausage and cheese. There isn't a children's menu, but the ambiance is casual, and the soup/salad/sandwich combos offer variety and good sizes for kids.
Ordered a sandwich that had 2 tiny strips of meat and guacamole when the menu said avocado. Very sad sandwich that cost me $9. A little ridiculous.
