The latest deli spot from sandwich genius Adam Mesnick, the man behind SOMA's Deli Board, focuses on cold, Philly-style hoagies (different from a submarine because it uses soft, flat rolls instead of crusty Italian rolls). All sandwiches at 1058 Hoagie come on a traditional soft sesame seed roll, and even if there's a bit too much bread for the cold fillings, the toppings are high-quality and will satisfy any Italian sub cravings. No. 1 is a trio of Italian meats (Genoa salami, mortadella, and capicola) with provolone and cherry peppers; No. 2 swaps fiery pepperoni for the mortadella and capicola, and adds olive salad and sun-dried cherry tomatoes, which complement the meat nicely. No. 4 is vegetarian but you won't miss the meat in the face of sliced fresh mozzarella, artichoke hearts, olive salad, and shum spread (mayo, garlic, and basil pesto). The room has the same poured-concrete, sandwich-porn-adorned, turntable-soundtracked interior as Deli Board.
Good for you guys for standing up to Anna Roth. She totes in her online article that she was just being "punny" with her title and that she wonders when this schoolyard namecalling will end. Funny how one-sided she sees things. She initiated up the namecalliing with her disrespectful comment or "punny" article title. She did it so people would read her article, so people know who she is, she used namecalling to her advantage. Well, I say turnabout's fair play. So, careful Anna... she who throws stones in glass houses...All this does is make me want to stop in and try your Hoagie's first hand when I visit SF. BTW, they look delicious!!

The Bay Area has been home to countless culinary innovations, but if there's one area where our friends back East have us beat, it's sandwich engineering. The hot pastrami, the Reuben, the submarine — they're all simple blueprints we follow out... More »
